SINDROME PRE MESTRUALE

The menstrual cycle is the sequence of physiological changes that every woman undergoes continuously throughout her (fertile) life. The menstrual cycle lasts on average between 26 and 36 days and is regulated by hormones that through their fluctuation determine four different phases: menstruation, the follicular phaseovulation and the luteal phase. Each phase is characterised by a specific hormonal set-up; unfortunately, it can happen that fluctuations in these hormones can have a negative impact on a woman's quality of life. In particular, the so-called Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS), a recurring disorder that affects more than 40 per cent of women, can occur during the luteal phase. The picture of symptoms is varied and includes a range of complaints both of a psychological nature such as irritability, aggression, anxiety, depression and altered appetite, and other types of complaints such as increased water retention, breast pain, headaches, bloating and weight gain, and altered intestinal transit.

Following healthy habits such as an active lifestyle, a proper diet and, when appropriate, the use of specific dietary supplements can help support well-being during the menstrual cycle.
